5th PINK FLAMINGO AWARDS
The 5th Annual Pink Flamingo Awards took place November 2, 2017 at the spectacular James L. Knight Center. The focus of the evening was to honor the people, places and organizations that have demonstrated the highest level of excellence in our community throughout the year, as determined by a community vote. This event also serves as the premier fundraiser to support the Hub at the LGBT Visitor Center.
The Pink Flamingo Awards attracts hundreds of affluent and brand-loyal Miami locals, high-profile community influencers, political leaders, entertainment and hospitality professionals and members of the South Florida business community. At the event, we showcase a select variety of the area’s top talent, businesses and organizations in an effort to raise awareness for the cultural, economic and social richness that defines South Florida.
In addition to an open bar cocktail reception and a delectable 3 course dinner, the live entertainment was simply spectacular. We proudly welcomed the Miami Big Sound Orchestra who played the entire show live! The highly-accomplished members of the orchestra have played on numerous Grammy Award winning projects. The evening also featured the dynamic talents of Dance Now Miami and the hilarious comedy of Julie Goldman from BRAVO TV as the evening’s emcee!
The Pink Flamingo Awards is much more than a celebration of community members. It is also an important fundraiser for the local community. Money was raised that will specifically go to programs offered at the Hub of the LGBT Visitor Center such as an LGBT Cancer Support Group, Transgender Support Group, Bereavement Support, Crystal Meth Anonymous, Smart Recovery and HIV testing. The mission of the Hub is to build strong community by fostering social engagement and community wellness. We also provide essential resources for the LGBTQ tourist promoting socioeconomic development and tourism. With your help, these important programs will continue to serve people who visit the Hub at the LGBT Visitor Center on Miami Beach.

As such, The Hub has become an ideal location for outreach, awareness, testing and referrals. We not only provide essential resources for the LGBTQ tourist promoting socioeconomic development and tourism; but we provide community wellness and support such as fielding HIV related calls and walk-ins on a regular basis; HIV testing, hosting educational workshops, panel discussions, and recovery & support groups such as Trans-Trend Transgender Support Group, Bereavement Support Group, Crystal Meth Anonymous, Smart Recovery and an LGBT Cancer Support Group.
The mission of The Hub at the LGBT Visitor Center is to build strong community by fostering social engagement and community wellness. We enhance the health and well-being of the LGBTQ communities by providing activities, programs and services that create community and empower community members. We also provide essential resources for the LGBTQ tourist promoting socioeconomic development and tourism. The Hub at the LGBT Visitor Center supports the education and travel and tourism outreach efforts for the Miami Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.
The MDGLCC Foundation, Inc. was founded in 2008 by the Miami Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber board of directors. It was determined by the MDGLCC board that the creation of a 501c3 affiliate would allow the chamber to shift focus to community building and education programs more effectively by housing such projects under its foundation.
In 2010, the MDGLCC Foundation, Inc. opened the LGBT Visitor Center in Miami Beach, Florida (located in the Old Historic City Hall). In a short period, this facility came to be regarded as the premier model of its kind and, greets thousands of LGBT & Allied visitors each year.
In September of 2016 the center was renamed The Hub at the LGBT Visitor Center to better reflect its broadened mission to build strong community by fostering social engagement and community wellness. We also provide essential resources for the LGBTQ tourist promoting socioeconomic development and tourism.
Today, the Hub at the LGBT Visitor Center continues to welcome LGBTQ tourists from around the globe annually. We also offer vast array of programming for our local community including educational workshops, panel discussions, recovery & support groups and social events.
